The Stonewall Builder

The Stonewall Builder.
Musical: by Liz Clark
Heir Island residency: 16-18th of September.
Culture night performance on Heir Island: 18th September (with facilitated audience discussion)
Sherkin island performance: 20th September.

Join singer-songwriter and theatre maker Liz Clark for a special Culture Night presentation of an original piece, The Stonewall Builder, at The Gallery on Heir Island. Part concert, part theatre, The Stonewall Builder weaves original songs, storytelling and live performance to explore identity, belonging, courage and connection across generations. Inspired by Liz’s years-long work as resident musician in community hospitals across West Cork, the piece tells the story of navigating what it means to come out as a gay woman while building a relationship with an older generation whose lives and experiences were often very different. This Culture Night event offers audiences an opportunity to experience the work during its creative residency on Heir Island, where the performers will have spent the last few days rehearsing and refining the show before taking it to other West Cork communities.

This evening will be followed by an informal conversation with the artists about how the work has been developed and how rural communities continue to shape the project. Although The Stonewall Builder is rooted in just one person’s story, the show asks universal questions about finding the courage to be yourself and celebrates the surprising conversations that can happen between generations and the way music brings people together. Whether you are interested in music, theatre, storytelling, LGBTQ+ experiences, or simply enjoy hearing original work in a beautiful island setting, everyone is warmly welcome.
