Hosted by The Arts Council, in collaboration with Create and Creative Places MacUíllíam the Art of Place symposium was a two event exploring people, possibilities and practice. The Art of Place Symposium was an event about making art with communities in specific places, centered around the Creative Places Programme.
Creative Places West Cork Islands awarded a two year extention.
Cork County Council has welcomed the decision by the Arts Council to continue to provide funding for the Creative Places: West Cork Islands programme for an additional two years.

This event welcomed artists, community leaders, advocacy groups, educators, and representatives from the public and voluntary sectors across city and county for a lively day of exchange focused on socially engaged arts practice and collaborative creativity.

In 2024 Sherkin and Heir Islands facilitated the national network in what was a fantastic few days sharing, learning & connecting.

President and Sabina host a St. Patrick’s Day reception celebrating Samhlaíocht agus an Náisiún – Imagination and the Nation
Each year, the President and Sabina Higgins mark St. Patrick’s Day by hosting a reception for groups and people that have made a particular contribution to Irish society. This year the President and Sabina Higgins hosted a reception celebrating the President’s ‘Samhlaíocht agus An Náisiún – Imagination and The Nation’ initiative. ‘Samhlaíocht agus An Náisiún – Imagination and The Nation’ is an initiative to highlight the powerful and transformative role of art and creativity in the evolution of Ireland as a republic and an idea.

This strand is for r&d, small projects that require an immediate response, workshops and ad-hoc requests. The available funding under this strand is for projects ranging from small requests to, coffee mornings or for research into a larger idea. The Islander Artist / Maker scheme is for artists, creatives, community groups and individuals who are residents of Oileán Chléire, Sherkin Island, Heir Island, Long Island, Whiddy Island, Bere Island and Dursey Islands. The maximum amount under this award is €2,000.
We enthusiastically welcome requests for amounts less than this.

The Islander Residencies strand is to assist islanders in advancing a practice by inviting a collaborator or mentor to the island. An applicant must be a resident of one of the islands. The maximum amount under this award is €1,000. We enthusiastically welcome requests for amounts less than this.
