Skerkin Island Community Hall
Launch: Sept 6th to 18th @ 3pm
Special event on Culture night Sept 18th @ 3:00pm

The official closing of the exhibition “Béaloideas” will take place on Culture Night, 18th September, at 3.00 p.m. On arrival guests will be invited to enjoy a light reception with wine, tea, coffee, soft drinks and home baking while enjoying the artwork.

Followed by a Scoraíocht, Mona together with several islanders, will gather for an informal conversation about life on Sherkin Island in years gone by. They will share memories, stories and the old place names that have inspired her project. These are the local people whom Mona interviewed during my research, and their knowledge, memories and lived experiences have been invaluable in bringing the project to life. This conversation will be both informative and engaging, offering guests an insight into everyday life on the island in the past and highlighting the importance of preserving these stories, traditions and place names for future generations.

Traditionally, Scoraíocht describes the custom of people visiting one another in their homes for conversation, storytelling and the sharing of local knowledge. This tradition embodies the strong sense of community that has shaped her research and inspired her work.
