Sherkin Island Community Exhibition, dancing at the crossroads and the Islander book, ‘The Story of us’

Start: June 5th 2026

The annual Sherkin Island Community Art Exhibition is a cherished event that celebrates the creativity and talent within the island community. Open to all, it provides an inclusive platform for individuals to showcase their artistic endeavors, whether they are seasoned artists or first-time participants. Each person can submit up to three pieces of artwork, with an additional opportunity to contribute photographs for inclusion in a commemorative book.

The last two Community books have been highly successful, with participation increasing each year. Building on this momentum, the island produced a new themed book titled “The Story of Us,” in 2026 celebrating Sherkin Island’s distinctive identity through stories and images from people connected to the island.

Migration has always been part of Sherkin’s story. Over generations, people have arrived, left, and sometimes returned, each leaving their mark on the island. In turn, Sherkin has shaped the lives of those who were born here, lived here for a time, or chose to make it their home.
